Aside from his film and art music works, Nīkau regularly strives to broaden his sonic horizons through collaboration in and solo exploration of many different genres. Nīkau has created projects in electronica, jazz, rock, alt-pop, metal, hip hop, lo-fi and vaporwave styles, amongst others. Nīkau has also worked in the theatre, accompanying renowned poet Lynda Chanwai-Earle on traditional Chinese and Māori instruments for her play Ka Shue.
Nīkau currently has two small-scale projects underway. The first, named octøber, contains a collection of lo-fi, electronic and plunderphonic-based works. The second, Walking Up Walls, is based on a challenge from a colleague to create an album of math-rock influenced takes on popular genres entirely from the bedroom.
